Disappearing in Words. Poet and poem in C.O. Jellema's lyrical works

The title of my dissertation is: 'Disappearing in a word - poet and poem in the poetry of C.O. Jellema'. The dissertation consists of six chapters. The first chapter deals with the methodology. Then four chapters deal with a number of series of poems. The final chapter consists of a summery and the positioning of Jellema as a poet. The dissertation asks the question of the poet Jellema's poetical self-portrait and explores the intertwining of the poet and poem in his poetry. It is examined how Jellema presents himself in a number of series of poems and how he paints a portratit of himself. It is specifically analysed how he speaks about poetry and how he displays his poetics. The dissertation analyses and interprets a number of poem series as accurately as possible, shows the intertwining of poet and poem and makes the poetical self-portrait visible. Special attention is paid to intertextuality and poetics in the series of poems. Also the poet is placed in the poetical currents of his time and it is made clear that he is associated with both Romanticism and Symbolism. Seven series of poems from the period 1980-1990 have been chosen, years that can be regarded as the flowering period of Jellema's poetry.
