Project

Development of nanophosphors for tracking of dendritic cells in immunotherapy

This project is aimed at finding an alternative way of medical imaging, without using any harmful materials. The

ultimate goal is to be able to load DCs with ‘low-in-the-dark’nanoparticles, which can be excited with ultraviolet or

visible light before being injected into the body. The patient literally starts to glow, and the light is detected where

labeled cells are located in the body.

For this application, small particles emitting red or infrared light have to be developed, since this is needed to

ensure efficient penetration of light through organs and tissues.
