On the nature of prejudice: subroups as mental representation of social catagories

The aim of this project is to examine whether social catagories such as men/women and indigene/immigrant are mentally represented by subgroups of these categories, in contrast to what classic prototype and examplar models postulate. Furthermore, individual differences concerning the extent to which subgroups are used, are inspected in detail and the relation between mental representation and discrimination/prejudice is thoroughly investigated.
