Mitochondrial function in skeletal muscle and prevention of metabolic complications in obesity.

This project proposal aims to evaluate the relationship between insulin resistance, mitochondrial function and hypogonadism in skeletal muscle of prediabetic (type 2) patients. Also the possible therapeutic role of physical exercise training, supplementation of aromatase inhibitors (to decrease the conversion of testosterone to estradiol) and the combination of both on mitochondrial histology (by electron microscopy) and function will be evaluated.
