Novel approaches to the diagnosis and pharmacological therapy of upper gastrointestinal disorders

This PhD project will focus on novel approaches to the diagnosis and management of upper gastrointestinal disorders. In terms of treatment approaches, the focus will be on controlled trials which evaluate 3 different strategies to avoid inappropriate long-term therapy with proton pump inhibitors and on management of upper gastrointestinal symptoms with phytotherapeutic and classical medical approaches. In terms of diagnosis, the project will evaluate the potential of a serum-based test to predict abnormal findings in upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
