Relying on both existing and novel survey data, this PhD will examine questions relating to changes in forms of (economic, social, political) inequality and the impact that it has on various modes of political participation (both institutional and non-institutional modes), protest activities (including voting for radical parties on the left and right), and trust in political actors and institutions, as well as examine how alterations to the substantive product and quality of public services might potentially mitigate the negative effects of inequalities on the quality of democracy.
