Databases and Theoretical Computer Science

Research Group

Main organisation:Computer Sciences
Lifecycle:1 Jan 1990 →  Today
Organisation profile:The research group on Databases and Theoretical Computer Science is active in the field of database theory. Database systems and data management are broadly interpreted, and not limited to relational systems (although, also in the context of relational database management systems, there are still a lot of research challenges). The general theme of our research is the design and analysis of logical data models and query languages. We apply this theme to a variety of types of data and systems, such as relational, complex-object, geometric, geographic, temporal, and graph data; data on the Web; personal data management; distributed and decentralized data; data mining; machine learning; programs as data. The research group also works in neighboring fields, such as mathematical logic, complexity, algorithms, artificial intelligence, knowledge representation, and even DNA computing.
Keywords:Algorithms, Complexity, Data mining, Data on the Web, Database theory, Geographical and temporal database systems, Logic, Query languages for machine learning
Disciplines:Artificial intelligence, Information sciences, Information systems, Programming languages, Theoretical computer science
