Animal Vision Center

The Animal Vision Center is a platform that integrates state-of-the-art technologies for ocular imaging and electrophysiology, and visual acuity testing in laboratory animals. By bringing together a complementary set of techniques, the consortium of research groups from the departments of Biology, Neurosciences and Cardiovascular Sciences, wants to take eye and visual system research at KU Leuven to the next level. The research of this consortium  oncentrates on ocular diseases and their impact throughout the entire visual system. In the Animal Vision Center, one animal can be run through an array of techniques to obtain data about the morphological intactness of its visual system, implications on neuronal connectivity and visual performance. This will result in the most complete set of information about the impact of a certain intervention (e.g. disease model, genetic or pharmacological manipulation) on the structure and function of the visual system.
