Be young, be cultural! Cultural participation and cultural education in the early years (0-6 year olds)

Arguments about the importance of cultural participation and cultural education are often accompanied by the hypothesis that the effects and output of this type of participation and education are not exactly the same for all age groups. In fact, often the importance of participation and education of especially the (very) young is emphasized. This research focuses on three research questions:

  1. What is the exact influence of cultural participation and education on children between 0 and 6 years old?
  2. Which cultural and welfare organizations in Flanders organize cultural (learning) activities for the very young?
  3. Compared to other European countries, what are the characteristics of the Flemish policy on cultural participation and cultural education for this age group?

These three research questions are being answered by means of a literature review, a mapping study and an international benchmarking study.
