Cross-sector social partnerships: a pathway to co-create sustainable social and economic value to the benefit of the partnership and the contributing partners.

Social issues and challenges are increasing while resources of government and the scale of non-profit organisations, traditionally addressing these issues, are insufficient to provide the solution. In the same time, we have reached a point where successful businesses realize they have a social responsibility next to the primary economic one, proof of which lies in recent developments in corporate social responsibility (CSR) literature and practice. However, for many companies this tends to relate to unilateral charity-driven activities creating a one-off resource value for the non-profit organisation they support. In my research I would like to study how collaboration between business and non-profits can develop to structured partnerships as a model to create more enduring social impact. As the scale and impact of the collaboration increases, it is equally important to study the value effects on the contributing partners’ internal organisations and how social value can translate into economic value and vice versa.
