Project

Development of multifunctional Flexible AntiBIofilm COATings for implants [FLAB ICOAT].

The FLABICOAT consortium specifically aims to develop the next generation of multifunctional dental implants containing novel, biofilm sensitizing molecules (BSMs) that can be released from a microporous diffusion barrier (MDB) on macroporous titanium (Ti) in a flexible way via a built-in injection port and internal reservoir. These next generation multifunctional implants are evaluated for in vitro and in vivo antibiofilm activity and osseointegration. An additional aim of FLABICOAT is the development of an in vitro test tool to assess antibiofilm activity of compounds in a high-throughput manner. FLABICOAT brings together complementary expertise in the fields of materials engineering, controlled release systems, microbiology and in vivo biofilm and osseointegration models, which is supported by a substantial portfolio of granted patents and patent applications of the partners.
