Digital transformation of the physical store (Digitale transformatie van de fysieke winkel)

The main objective of this project is to facilitate the digitization process of retail entrepreneurs, to sensitize, implement and accelerate a targeted technology transfer to the physical store of retailers in Flanders in order to optimally respond to the needs of the digital consumer. In addition, the acquired insights of this project will enable retail technology providers to match their technological products and services even better to the needs of both consumer and retailer, leading to savings on R&D costs, a faster go-to-market, greater investment and/or higher employment. This project focuses on SMEs from 2 sectors: retailers and technology providers.

To map the starting situation among retailers, we developed the 'digital transformation' maturity scan. With 25% start-ups and 58% explorers, retailers in Flanders are still in their infancy. The misconception among many retail entrepreneurs is still that digital transformation is only for big players with mega-budgets. We showed with this project that this is not a prerequisite. The developed tools are important in this respect. For example, the retail scan has already been completed almost 500 times since its launch. A report with valuable tips is sent automatically after completion. The added value, learnings and possible obstacles of each of the 11 realized retaillab were processed in business cases each time.
