Empowering the development of sustainable and healthy food products

Many sustainability and health challenges are food-related. In the coming decades, the development of sustainable and healthy foods that (1) continue to meet the highest quality standards, (2) are technically and economically feasible and (3) increasingly meet the needs of the individual will undoubtedly be the most important ' driver' for product and process innovations in the food industry. The food industry is very important in Flanders and especially in West Flanders. Consequently, nutrition is one of the focal points in the province's policy objectives, which has already led to several nutrition-related initiatives in the province. In order to guarantee the strategic position of the KU Leuven Association in the food domain in West Flanders, VIVES (Expertise Center for Agro- and Biotechnology) and KU Leuven (Food & Lipids and TQAP) want to work together to strengthen their mutual cooperation on the one hand and with industrial partners on the other. and to take important steps together in the development of sustainable and healthy food. This collaboration mainly focuses on the technological, quality-related aspects of developing healthy and sustainable food.
