Project

Flexible Ti controlled release platform for medical applications

Nowadays, controlled release technologies enabling a prolonged delivery of active substances are of high interest for the controlled drug delivery from medical devices. However, important concerns remain such as an inherent burst release and premature depletion of compounds or the limited mechanical strength with respect to load-bearing implant applications. Our innovative composite materials allow a slow but sustained release between an internal reservoir and the surroundings for an extended period of time. In combination with additive manufacturing as a cost-effective and flexible manufacturing process spatio-temporal customizable controlled release platforms can be realized. This interdisciplinary project brings together research experts in the development and exploitation of more therapeutically effective and economically efficient controlled release applications.
