Fokus: Factory of the future Developing from Knowledge Bundling and Collaboration (FOKUS)

The high-tech industry is one of the most important pillars in the border region of Flanders-Netherlands. New (disruptive) technologies, fierce competition from emerging markets, ever-increasing consumer demands and the increasing scarcity of raw materials require a redesign of the production chain with more flexibility, diversity and quality.

The industry today has to comply with customization, with higher quality and shorter lead times. To achieve this, flexible and more efficient and faster production processes are needed. But the organizations and operators involved who control such production systems cannot be left behind either.

The border region is working hard on this necessary transformation to a more digital industry; Fokus connects knowledge, facilities and technologies by having seven knowledge labs in the Netherlands and Flanders work together intensively.
