Project

High throughput - high sensitivity automated multinuclear 600 MHz NMR platform. (I002720N)

NMR spectroscopy is an extremely powerful characterization technique used on a daily basis by numerous KU Leuven research groups (currently > 150 active users in Leuven Chem&Tech). To dramatically increase the throughput and the to exploit new possibilities for the different users, we propose to upgrade the existing manually operated 600 MHz NMR 2-channel spectrometer with a new 3-channel console. The new electronic configuration will allow 3D correlations between nuclei, faster measurement through accelerated acquisition methods and to run the latest and most innovative complex pulse sequences. A nitrogen-cooled detection probe will also be installed that will boost sensitivity by a factor of (at least) 2, reducing measuring time by a factor of at least 4. In contrast to a helium-cooled cryoprobe, the proposed configuration is sustainable and keeps the current flexibility because it allows regular probe changes. The system will be equipped with an automated sample changer to allow 24/7 continuous operation which will boost throughput even further. The gain in productivity and new technical possibilities will bring our platform to what is the state of the art worldwide and will allow us to respond to the constantly increasing needs of the users.
