Interaction of ultrasonic waves with frictional defects in the context of nondestructive testing of materials

The study will concern nonlinear acoustics nondestructive testing of solid materials and structures containing frictional defects (cracks, delaminations etc). More specifically, it is planned to develop a numerical tool capable of simulating acoustic waves and vibrations in solids containing inner frictional contacts. The main objective is to establish the theory and experiment agreement for a number of test samples with calibrated (known) defects and then identify geometric parameters of unknown damage.
