Project

Modelling of Head Related Transfer Functions in view of a realistic VR/AR experience (VRACE ESR9)

This project focuses on the effect of the listener (shape of the head, torso and pinna) on the acoustics through Head Related Transfer Functions (HRTF). The current generation of such techniques often leads to problems when localizing sound sources, leading to front-back and up-down confusion for the listener. Efficient methodologies will be investigated to generate accurate geometrical descriptions of the head-torso using photogrammic methods. These generate a model which allow to calculate these HRTFs, using numerical simulation techniques such as the Boundary Element Method or the Finite Element Method.
