Project

Monitoring and assessment of the innovation opportunities of the small and medium enterprises. (R-4168)

The aim of the research project is to develop, test and verify an analytical tool for measuring and assessing the innovative potential of SMEs and make a link between the innovative potential and actual performance of the particular SME. The aim is to examine key characteristics and factors which do have the most important impact on innovative potential of the SMEs. Particularly we will try to explore the influence of board composition (corporate governance) and governance structure on the innovative potential and performance of the SMEs. In order to define the key factors which are influencing the innovative potential of SMEs secondary research based on recent studies will be performed. The outcome will be the elaboration of a theoretical tool for monitoring and assessing the innovative potential of SMEs. Subsequently the primary research will be realized on a sample of at least 30 Flemish and Czech SMEs. In this phase the theoretical model will be tested and verified. During the practical phase we suppose close collaboration with innovation audit professionals from Flemish Innovation centres and the Agency for Innovation by Science and Technology (IWT). On the basis of the primary research we will analyze the data and compare them with the outcomes of secondary research on recent studies. Afterwards the revision of the theoretical model will be done. In the end of the project case studies with policy recommendations will be elaborated.
