Next generation microfluidics technology for human and animal diagnostics

The Point of Care (POC) diagnostics market has witnessed intense growth over the last decade. Despite the advent of many innovative technologies, the POC market is still dominated by decades-old Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) technology. LFA enables integration of basic immunoassays on a cheap, disposable platform, but is limited in sensitivity and quantitative performance. As such, more demanding assays are confined to the lab. We have developed a novel microfluidics technology – iSIMPLE, which allows integration of complex assays on a self-powered, cost-effective and disposable chip. In this project, together with potential end-users and industry stakeholders, we will apply our patented iSIMPLE technology in two market relevant application areas: (1) a bedside test to improve management of epilepsy, (2) point of need diagnostics for animal health. iSIMPLE has the potential to bridge the gap between LFA and complex assays, and is expected to disrupt the POC market.
