Project

North South South Cooperation programme (NSSCP) between VUB and University of Nairobi (UON) Kenya and University of Western Cape (UWC) South Africa. (VLIR209)

The VLIR-UOS IUC programme provides a dynamic framework for institutional cooperation, including the notion of learning and flexible responses to emerging demands and/or opportunities that are being identified during its implementation. From its inception in 1997, the notion has gained ground for VLIR-UOS to gradually invite the partners themselves to offer opportunities to develop joint initiatives. As a result an IUC North South South Cooperation Fund (NSSCF) was created in 2005, following which a call to submit proposals was launched.

A least 2 IUC partners of different countries have the possibility of including non IUC partners. Typically, it concerns a clearly defined activity (exchange, training etc) in which all the NSSCP partners participate, and which is financially supported by VLIR-UOS.

Objectives

In general, it can be stated that, as the overall IUC programme, the IUC North South South Cooperation Programme (NSSCP) will contribute to processes of institutional capacity building through:
- enacing the mutual self-help capacity, and ownership with regard to the VLIR-UOS - exchanging best practices or engaging in joint activities in areas of research, education, policy and management;
- contributing to linking the VLIR-UOS IUC partners to existing (Southern) networks or creating such networks in areas that Contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the partner programmes concerned.
