Influence of inhomogeneities on the chiral expression of conjugated polymers

The supramolecular order of the model conjugated polymer, poly(3-hexylthiophene), is improved in order to increase the resulting Faraday rotation in films. This is done by varying and subsequently optimising the molar mass, the dispersity and the end-groups. Afterwards, different monomer units are tested, such as fluorene and benzodithiophene. At last, the optimal parameters are combined with a perfluoroendcapper and siloxane initiator to reach an end-on orientation.
