Quantification of technical performances, cyclist experience and safety of speed pedelecs for commuter use

The goal of this PhD is twofold:

• Trying to make a scientific statement on safety of the current generation of speed pedelecs

• Linking safety to certain parameters (such as maximum continuous rated power, maximum assistance speed, maximum assistance factor, with or without open throttle…)

This research is being conducted through the logging of the behaviour of human and machine, quantification of certain technical parameters such as speed, acceleration, electrical and mechanical power... Besides this technical study, the PhD research also includes a sociologic aspect that evaluates user experiences and the interaction with other road users.
