Project

Sabbatical Anna Kisiel

The goal of this sabbatical is twofold. On one hand I plan to establish new connections with researchers within and outside of Europe that would lead to a new scientific cooperation. On the other hand, I hope to use this time, and the expertise of the colleagues, to complete the works on the current C1-project. The new cooperations will be established via internet with colleagues overseas (e.g. Steven L. Franks at Indiana University Bloomington, Vladimir Borschev at UMass) and during face-to-face meetings. The latter require local (e.g. to UGent - Jóhanna Barðdal) and international (e.g. Tine Breban, Kersti Börjars and David Denison –University of Manchester, Zuzanna Topolińska - MAAS Skopje, Darko Matovac - Univeristy in Zagreb, Maria Rita Manzini and Ludovico Franco - Università degli Studi di Firenze) travels. If possible/necessary, the travels will be replaced be Skype meetings. By the time of this sabbatical, I will have worked for 2.5 years on my C1-project The grammaticalization of constructions with taxonomic nouns in Polish and Russian: Between prepositional phrase and genitive. During the sabbatical period, I hope to complete the works on grammaticalization and language change along prepositional and case driven paths in Polish and Russian. I hope to use the expertise of the colleagues in related topics to formulate a theory about grammaticalization along these paths as gradual structural and collocational process. At the same time, I hope to find strong points in common between my current research and research interests of the colleagues, which should lead not only to one-time co-operation on a scientific paper but above all to future co-working on an international project Grammaticalization and language change along case driven and analytical paths in Slavic languages.
