Serial position in the working memory as a determinant of spatially-numeric interactions

The cognitive processing of number and space are tightly linked. Traditional explanations attribute this link to the cognitive long term representation of number magnitude in the form of a mental number line. Yet, recent evidence suggests that the link has more to do with how information is stored as sequences in working memory. This will be investigated in patients suffering from dementia and spatial neglect. This has implications for understanding and treatment of developmental dyscalculia and math problems.
