Economic valuation study of ecosystem services for SCBA

Book - Report

Subtitle:final report
This study examines the quantification and valuation of ecosystem services of natural landscapes. Natural landscapes are defined as landscapes that consist largely of natural elements such as trees, wild plants, water, ... There are no industrial or residential areas. There is no main activity in agriculture. Ecosystem services are goods and services provided by well-functioning ecosystems, which have an effect on the prosperity of a society.

The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (Reid et al., 2006) divides these services into four major groups:
- production services;
- regulatory services;
- cultural services;
- support services.

There are various methods of monetary valuation of these ecosystem services that depend on whether or not they can be obtained on a market. Before we briefly discuss these methods, it is important to note that we do not value ecosystems as such, but we do value the effects on prosperity caused by changes in ecosystem services.
