Monitoring van het organische koolstofgehalte in Vlaamse bodems in openbaar domein en particuliere tuinen

Book - Report

The main objective of the present assignment is to obtain reliable key figures of soil organic carbon stocks for different subcategories falling under 'Land take'. For these statistics a total of 127 site surveys were carried out.
This Final Report brings together two previous Interim Reports on the methodology used to select the sampling sites in different subcategories of 'Land take' in Flanders (Part I); and on the statistical processing of all measurement data (Part II). Part III discusses the implications for monitoring carbon stocks under Land take.
We conclude that through an optimized allocation of 558 sample plots across the strata 'Parks and roadside verges', 'Ornamental gardens and lawns' and 'Kitchen gardens', an average relative 0-100cm soil carbon stock change at a rate of 4‰ per year can be observed after 20 years. This is a larger number than anticipated in the C-MON carbon monitoring network design (study OMG/VPO/BODEM/TWOL/2017/1). If the envisaged number of C-MON sample areas is maintained (2535 in total with then 442 for Space Occupation) then this monitoring network will still allow us to detect plausible OC stock changes under 'Space Occupation' except in vegetable gardens.
