Hybrid Laser-based additive - subtractive research platform (HyLaForm) (HYLAFORM) KU Leuven
The state-of-the-art hybrid laser based additive and subtractive research platform will consist out of 2 complementary modular research machines. Each machine will combine an additive manufacturing technique, also called 3D printing, with laser beam (micro) machining as a subtractive approach. The applied additive manufacturing techniques are selective laser melting (SLM) and laser metal deposition (LMD) within the platform.
EU-Genomics: EU Infrastructure for genomic analysis (EU GENOMICS) KU Leuven
Next-generation sequencing (NGS) has taken modern research by storm and consequently is one of the most important tools of modern biological and biomedical research. However, the high cost of instrumentation and reagents, the multifaceted expertise required for correct use and the legal and ethical issues hamper access to NGS technologies for many researchers. EU-Genomics aims to address those challenges by unifying the major European genome centers that provide external access to their facilities. The mission of EU-Genomics is to facilitate access to cuttingedge DNA sequencing ...
EMBRC: The Flemisch contribution to the European marine biological resourche centre (EMBRC) KU Leuven
EMBRC-ERIC (European Marine Biological Resource Center) is a European distributed infrastructure cluster with the aim of supporting scientifically excellent marine research. EMBRC was created by bringing together the fragmented landscape of infrastructure and HR in European marine research stations to respond to EuropeU + 2019's food, health and environmental challenges. With 9 members (Belgium, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain and the UK), this ERIC has a broad portfolio of research platforms, access to biological resources, training and expertise for a broad user ...
Atom probe tomography (ATOMPROBE) KU Leuven
A consortium composed of research units from KU Leuven, Universiteit Hasselt and UGent has the ambition to create an atomprobe tomography user facility at the disposal for Flemisch research purposes. This emerging technology offers mind-blowing insight in the atomic composition of advanced materials or complex 3-dimensional nanostructures. This technique allows to reconstruct a digital image of the atomic composition of materials with absolute atom identification, quantification and a 3 dimensional spatial resolution at the near-atomic scale in the order of 0.2~0.3 nm. The acquired ...
Platform for Next Generation Screening in Quantitative Biology & Drug Discovery (NEXTGEBQBIO) KU Leuven
In this proposal we outline a state-of-the-art platform that would be among the first in Europe to combine the best in automated microscopy with advanced cell culture robotics capable of automated isolation, expansion and differentiation of mammalian and human cells, including iPSC. The platform will be unique in Flanders and will allow running quantitative image-based screens as well as screens for disease phenotypes using conventional cell lines but more importantly also on human stem cells, which provide the closest mimic of human pathology currently available. Not only will this prove ...
