ETRO (Electronics and Information Processing) focuses on three major topics: devices and electronic technology (LAMI) on the one hand, and on the other hand the processing of information through electronic means in fields related to digital images and video (IRIS) and speech (DSSP). 1. IRIS studies how to map image processing algorithms on appropriate architectures for efficient implementation, image and video compression, data visualisation, ...
Research topics are:
• Thermodynamics for material and process development
• Extraction and refining of metals
• Interaction of liquid slag and metals with refractory materials
• Thermodynamic and kinetic modeling of processes and interface reactions
• Material characterization
Chemische procestechniek Modelling of gas-solid chemical reactors. Bubble flow, heat transfer and conversion in fluidized bed reactors. Numerical analysis of the bifurcation behavior of non-linear systems. Catalytic reduction of NOx in automotive exhaust gases. Modelling of multistage separation processes. Computer-aided design of chemical processes: development of simulation programs. Energy integration in chemical processes.
This research group comprises five broad lines of research (1) Poverty and social integration, (2) Housing (3) Economy and welfare state (4) Organization of care and welfare (5) Accessibility, quality and effectiveness of aid and services The theme of migration and integration is cross-group.
This unit designs and develops antiviral and antitumor agents, primarily nucleoside, nucleotide or oligonucleotide analogues but also other substances which interact with enzymes involved in nucleic acid metabolism (i.e. DNA polymerase, reverse transcriptase, thymidine kinase, thymidylate kinase, nucleoside phosphorylase, dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase, adenosine deaminase, S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase, IMP dehydrogenase, OMP ...
The Unit of HIV/AIDS was created in 2011 and is headed by Prof. Lut Lynen (MD, internist). The unit’s field of interest is AIDS care in resource-limited settings, in particular HIV co-infections and opportunistic infections.
ResearchThe Policy Management group carries out economic research on public policy. The group focuses on the efficiency and effectiveness of government interventions by carrying out cost-effectiveness analyses and cost-benefit analyses. Furthermore, research is performed on the impact of the regulatory quality (ease of requesting permits, administrative burdens,...) on the ease of doing business in Europe.
