Industrial Microbiology Vrije Universiteit Brussel
The research group Industrial Microbiology and Food Biotechnology (formerly Industrial Microbiology, Fermentation Technology and Downstream Processing; IMDO) has been created in October 1994. It originates from the subunit of Biochemical Engineering of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Industrial Chemistry. The research theme deals with 'Research and Development for a Healthy Diet'. The establishment of IMDO meant the actual start of ...
Biochemistry, Molecular and Structural Biology KU Leuven
Research on four types of functionally active proteins - Copper proteins : hemocyanins (involved in dioxygen binding). - Thiol proteins: metallothioneins (metal detoxication and donation). - Protease inhibitors: alpha -2-macroglobulin homologues. - Regulatory proteins: cytokines (defencesystems against infection). Aim: to determine, after their isolation or possible induction, the composition and the primary to quaternary structure of these ...
Crop Biotechnics KU Leuven
The Division of Crop Biotechnics focuses its research and education on sustainable production of agricultural and horticultural products. We employ a variety of biotechnological methodologies to perform fundamental and applied plant research. We integrate knowledge at the cellular, tissue, plant, environment and agro-systems level for both model plants and economically important crops.
De Jaeger Lab Flanders Institute for Biotechnology
Department of Biology KU Leuven
The research activities of the Biology Department are diverse, and include molecular and physiological studies at cellular and organismal level as well as ecological research focusing on populations, communities and ecosystems. Although many research groups carry out in-depth analyses on specific model organisms, the diversity of life forms studied by the department as a whole is impressive. Our studies are embedded in a dense network of ...

Food Safety Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
Here we study the microbiological and chemical safety of food products along the entire production chain. We test analytical methods for detecting zoonotic pathogens, spoilage organisms and veterinary drug residues, and research control and remedial measures. We also study cleaning and disinfection, antibiotic resistance, virulence and/or persistence of pathogens and spoilage organisms, migration from packaging, and mycotoxins.
