The mamlukisation of the Mamluk Sultanate. Political Traditions and State Formation in the 15 Century Egypt and Syria Ghent University
The project focuses on the political traditions that, in the interplay between individuals, institutions and social interactions, dominated the Syro-Egyptian Mamluk sultanate in the 15th century (1412-1517). It aims to validate the hypothesis that a thorough transformation took place, as new traditions emerged, constructed around military slavery (U+2018mamlukizationU+2019) and tantamount to a process of early modern state formation.
