Elucidating mechanisms of egg contamination by Salmonella Enteritidis: identification of crucial factors for colonization of the reproductive tract in laying hens and contamination of eggs Ghent University
Salmonella Enteritidis is very efficient in contamination of eggs, and this has led to a worldwide pandemic in humans. The exact mechanisms of egg contamination by Salmonella are still unclear. Therefore the projectwill identify, using molecular methods, genes that are specifically involved in oviduct colonization and resistance to egg albumen.
Study of the adaptability of locomotion-related intrinsic risk factors for lateral ankle sprains and exercise-related lower leg pain in view of preventive measures Ghent University
The aim of this study is to prospectively investigate how intrinsic risk factors for lateral ankle sprains and ERLLP can be influenced.
Variation in cranial morphology in the European eel (Anguilla anguilla), in relation to its trophic ecology and pollution Ghent University
The European eel (Anguilla, anguilla) shows a natural but distinct variation in head shape (broad and narrow headed specimens). However, the nature of this shape difference (dimophism or not), r het underlying morphology and relation to differences in diet are unknown. This project will focus on these aspects in Flemish eels, as well as possible relationships with the occurrence of polluents will be examined.

Mobile eye-tracking glasses and electroencephalography (EEG). Ghent University
The requested equipment - a combination of mobile eye-tracking glasses and EEG – enables the investigation of research questions at the interface between human visual perception, cognition and various external stimuli (e.g., real-world environments and maps), especially while on-the-go (e.g., driving, cycling and walking) and at different environments. It helps to address research issues from both behavioural and neuropsychological ...

How anxiety transforms human cognition: an Affective Neuroscience perspective Ghent University
Anxiety, a state of apprehension or fear, may provoke cognitive or behavioural disorders and eventually lead to serious medical illnesses. The high prevalence of anxiety disorders in our society sharply contrasts with the lack of clear factual knowledge about the corresponding brain mechanisms at the origin of this profound change in the appraisal of the environment. Little is known about how the psychopathological state of anxiety ultimately ...
Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled mining of big longitudinal datasets collected with wearable sensors. KU Leuven
Medical diagnosis and patient follow-up currently relies on the experience of highly specialised clinicians, who evaluate patient symptoms during in-person visits, augmented with results coming from specialised laboratory tests and subjective patient reports. A wide range of digital measurement technologies offer the opportunity to record and store various aspects of health and pathological symptoms in a more frequent and detailed way ...
