Mechanobiological optimization of regeneration in cell-enriched construct implants within degenerative Cartilages: a defect Repair method through restoring Energy AbsorpTION KU Leuven
Knee cartilage defects and consequent degeneration contribute to the development of osteoarthritis (OA). OA affects the mechanical integrity of the tissue, whose main function is to absorb shock and minimize peak loads in the underlying subchondral bone.
Tissue engineering methods propose solutions to OA by implanting chondrocyte cell-enriched hydrogel/scaffold constructs within degenerative cartilage defects. By applying mechanical ...
NET-INJURY-IN-SEPSIS: Endothelial injury during sepsis: do NET-attached proteases participate in this process? KU Leuven
Bi-directional Force Communication on Cell-Matrix KU Leuven
Cells continuously sense external forces from their microenvironment, the extracellular matrix (ECM). In turn, they generate contractile forces, which stiffen and remodel this matrix. Although this bi-directional mechanical exchange is crucial for many cell functions, is remains poorly understood, mostly since the majority of ECMs, both natural and synthetic, are difficult to control or lack biological relevance. A new synthetic ...
Fabrication of Polysaccharides-Protein complex Nano-Hybrid Scaffold as regenerative biomaterial for bone tissue engineering KU Leuven
The development of new biomaterials in bone tissue engineering requires an interdisciplinary joint-venture combining material and biomedical sciences. The aim of the regenerative biomaterial is to repair the functional defect or damages by generation of a bone substitute. The biomaterial has to be highly engineered at the molecular level to mimic the function of the extracellular matrix including complex cell-material interactions and ...

CONNECT: Connexin and pannexin channels as drug targets and biomarkers in acute and chronic liver disease Vrije Universiteit Brussel
Pathophysiology of the Cartilage Growth Plate Ghent University
Multicentric study of several ransgenic mouse models for human osteochondrodysplasias (achondroplasia, Ellis van-Creveld dysplasia, osteopoikilosis, diastrophic dysplasia, neurofibromatosis type I). The principle objective is to determine the molecular, cell and extracellular matrix pathology of a number of distinct skeletal dysplasia phenotypes by studying a series of mouse models using a multidisciplinary systems biology approach.
