Biomedical Research Institute Hasselt University
BIOMED is a multidisciplinary institute where fundamental as well as applied scientific research, innovation and education are carried out in a stimulating academic environment within the domain of life sciences.
High quality fundamental and applied research is performed in a limited number of selected core domains relevant to human health and disease. Scientific services are conducted in activity fields closely related to our ...
Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Kulak Kortrijk Campus KU Leuven
Our research is aimed at better understanding of the VWF/ADAMTS13/platelet axis in hemostatic, thrombotic and inflammatory processes. We use various in vivo models, combined with intravital microscopy to study molecular and cellular interactions. In particular, we focus on designing novel therapeutic strategies that interfere with von Willebrand factor function for treatment of thrombo-inflammatory disease.
Laboratory for Signal Integration in Cell Fate Decision KU Leuven
Our scientific interests are to reveal how membrane-associated scaffold proteins and lipids participate in cell signaling and multicellular organization/homeostasis. We provided major contributions to our understanding of the importance of membrane trafficking for the biology of heparan sulfate proteoglycans, the role of phospholipids in the function of PDZ proteins and more recently the molecular mechanisms of exosome biogenesis. Our current ...
NanoHealth and Optical Imaging Group KU Leuven
The lab for NanoHealth and Optical Imaging performs research on the biomedical use of nanomaterials, with the primary focus on cancer research. The main research tracks are: studying the targeted delivery of nanomaterials in tumors, studying the therapeutic use of nanomaterials in cancer, either as a monotherapy or combined with more classical methods such as chemotherapy or immunotherapy. We further focus on developing optical imaging methods ...

Cardiovascular Sciences, Kulak Kortrijk Campus KU Leuven
Research in the Laboratory for Thrombosis Research (Karen Vanhoorelbeke, Simon De Meyer, Hans Deckmyn) at the Kulak campus of KU Leuven focuses on the molecular mechanisms by which the hemostatic proteins von Willebrand factor (VWF) and its cleaving enzyme ADAMTS13 contribute to health and disease. We perform fundamental research to understand the role of VWF and ADAMTS13 in hemostasis, bleeding, thrombosis and (thrombo)inflammatory ...
