Human RF-EMF exposure in future 6G wireless access networks: numerical and experimental study Ghent University
Future wireless access networks will employ massive base station (BS) antenna arrays to dynamically focus the downlink transmission at users, creating the EMF hot-spots. To this day, our understanding of the user exposure to such hot-spots remains limited. There is a timely need for development of novel techniques to numerically study the interaction of human bodies and the hot-spot EMF in realistic exposure conditions, as well as ...
Green space in relation to human health: assessing the impact of improved green exposure indicators on multiple health outcomes in Flanders KU Leuven
The objective of this project is to investigate spatial associations between human health and urban green space in Flanders using a cross-sectional observational study design, and to find an improved method to calculate an individual’s exposure to their surroundings. Responses from the 2018 Belgian Health Interview Survey will be used to define relevant health characteristics of the Flanders population. Green profiles will characterize and ...
Designing next-generation green wireless access networks taking into account power consumption and human exposure Ghent University
In the last few years, the power consumed by wireless access networks and the exposure for humans due to these networks has drawn attention. Most studies focus on existing technologies and the more traditional design of networks. This research proposal focuses on the development of next-generation networks and their energy and exposure performance. To this end, I will first investigate the new emergent 5G technology (which is commercially not ...
Assessing human exposure to persistent and mobile chemicals. University of Antwerp
Assessment of human exposure to intermediate-frequency electromagnetic fields originating from wireless power transfer systems Ghent University
The goal of the proposed research is to perform simulations and measurements that result in accurate predictions of human exposure to wireless power transfer systems operating in the intermediate-frequency band (between 0.1 and 10 MHz). Both the neuronal excitation levels and biological tissue heating will be assessed, seeing as both effects are prominent at intermediate frequencies.
Efficacy Assessment of Bio-Control Preventive Actions in Maize to Reduce Human Mycotoxin Exposure in Tanzania Ghent University
The use of atoxigenic Aspergillus species to reduce aflatoxins in maize, based on competitive exclusion of toxigenic fungi, is a promising bio-control strategy. However, no research has been executed on the secondary metabolic repertoire of these so-called atoxigenic Aspergillus species and potential favourable production of fumonisins by Fusarium species. Furthermore, the direct comparison of mycotoxins treated with bio-control and ...
