Accurate, real-time and low latency visual and haptic feedback based digital planning system for orthognathic surgery. Hasselt University
Latent paillomavirus infections in horses Ghent University
The development of equine sarcoids following latent bovine paillomavirus infection will be studied as well as variations in DNA sequence. Latent equine paillomavirus infections in the horse population and the evolution of EcPV-2 latency towards squamous cell carcinomas will be studied. The papillomavirus responsible for aural plaques will be characterized and the horse population will be screened for the presence of new papillomaviruses.
Polygenic analysis of the unique antibiotic potency of high acetic acid production and evaluation of other probiotic traits in Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii KU Leuven
The World Health Organisation (WHO) as well as the Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) define probiotics as live micro-organisms that confer a beneficial health effect on a host when they are administered in adequate quantities. Most probiotics are bacteria belonging to the genera Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. However, one of the most popular probiotics is the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii (S. ...
Metabolic potency of human intestinal microbiota towards ingested arsenic and consequences for microbe-host interactions Ghent University
This research will provide a more complete risk assessment for oral exposure to arsenic. A new in vitro module with the co-culture of microorganisms and Caco-2 cells will provide unique and novel information on As speciation changes. Elucidating the mechanism behind microbial As metabolism in the gut may point towards strategies to mitigate the risks from oral As exposure.
A structural-after-measurement (SAM) approach for latent interaction effects Ghent University
Interaction effects are ubiquitous in social science research, and detecting them in data is an important goal for many researchers. In linear regression, where all variables are observed, we can represent an interaction effect simply by adding an interaction term that multiplies the two variables of interest. Unfortunately, when variables are latent, including interaction effects in the model is far from trivial. In this project, we exploit ...
Evaluation of new tools to study the HIV latent reservoir in vitro and in vivo Ghent University
In this project new tools will be optimized to investigate latent HIV infection in vivo. Integration sites will be analyzed by optimizing a technique for sequence specific capture and DNA sequencing of proviral HIV DNA. In addition, a technique to identify latently infected cells based on in situ hybridization will be optimized for laser capture microdissection and gene expression analysis.
A living weapon: Can CAR T cells eliminate the latent HIV reservoir? Ghent University
The main goal of this project will be to establish the potential of CAR T cell technology in the treatment of latent HIV infections. In a first phase the protocol to produce HIV specific CAR T cells will be optimized. Subsequently, the HIV specific activity of these cells will be verified, first in vitro and then ex vivo
Analysis and Detection of Latent Rheumatic Heart Disease from Low-cost Single-lead Wearable Electrocardiogram Sensors using Machine Learning KU Leuven
Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is still an endemic disease and more prevalent in most developing countries, such as Ethiopia, affecting people at a younger age. Studies show that school children and people in the working-age group are more prevalent in RHD. Recently in 2018, WHO recognized it as a global health priority urging countries for interventions to be taken. The main objective of this research is how to effectively use affordable ECG ...
