The role and impact of the employment consultant in the (new) guidance and mediation model: an analysis of the implementation, the determinants at meso and micro level and the outcomes with jobseekers. KU Leuven
Global value chains: a micro- and macro-level analysis KU Leuven
The doctoral work will consist of essays in international trade and related domains. It will mainly focus on the analysis of global value chains from a firm-level perspective. First, the research agenda will entail the development of new theoretical frameworks. Then, the predictions arising from these models will be tested in the data using sound empirical strategies.
Towards efficient and detailed analysis of turbidite records for geo- and climate hazard reconstructions – An integrated approach combining X-ray CT, magnetic, grain-size and geochemical analysis Ghent University
Turbidite records can provide valuable information on the past occurrence and magnitude of several types of geo- and climate hazards. They have been used to reconstruct earthquake recurrence and rupture patterns, flood and lahar histories, rockfall events etc. Furthermore, detailed analysis of turbidite sedimentary structures, fabric and texture has the potential to allow reconstructing sequences and timelines of the geo- and climate hazards, ...
Computational multiscale methods: algorithms, analysis and applications KU Leuven
Nowadays, computer simulation is essential to create insight in many scientific domains, due to the availability of advanced numerical methods. However, results from simulation are only as meaningful as the model that was used to describe the system. Many physical, chemical and biological problems have a multiscale nature, and cannot be modeled to sufficient accuracy at the macroscopic scale of interest. At the same time, direct simulation ...
Multiscale isogeometric analysis of shape memory materials Ghent University
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) belong to a class of smart materials, which have the ability to memorize, recover or retain their original shape after deformations. Due to their superior properties, nowadays the demand of using SMAs for technical application and engineering has been increased in several fields, such as industrial applications and consumer products, aerospace, biomedical, automotive, structures and composites, and even fashion ...
Multi-scale analysis of textile and derived materials Ghent University
Every textile material, be it for low-end consumer goods or high-end technical products, is exploited for the properties resulting from its multi-scale nature (fibres -> yarns -> textiles -> derivatives). Understanding this multi-scale nature is thus key to improving this materials. Textiles are, for example, well suited for technical applications thanks to their unique combination of lightness, flexibility and strength. Yet such ...
A hierarchical analysis of the material and structural aspects of bone strength. KU Leuven
The life of depositions: a material and contextual analysis of structured settlement depositions from Northwestern Europe during the Iron Age Ghent University
This project aims to provide a systematic overview of structured depositions in settlement contexts during the Iron Age of Northwestern Europe. This serves to better understand the cosmology of the late prehistoric inhabitants in this region through their ritual and depositional behaviours. The research area of the Meuse-Somme-North Sea region complements the gradual movement of research interest from England, the Netherlands and Germany to ...
