Physics of potential-induced degradation in bifacial p-PERC solar cells Hasselt University
The combination of increasing operational voltages beyond 1000 V in photovoltaic (PV) installations and the emergence of new PV technologies requires a critical assessment of the susceptibility to potential-induced degradation (PID). Since this failure mode can trigger significant and rapid power losses, it is considered among the most critical failure modes with a high financial impact. Insights in the physical mechanism of the performance loss ...
CMOS-APS Detectors for Solar Physics: Lessons Learned during the SWAP Preflight Calibration KU Leuven
CMOS-APS imaging detectors open new opportunities for remote sensing in solar physics beyond what classical CCDs can provide, offering far less power consumption, simpler electronics, better radiation hardness, and the possibility of avoiding a mechanical shutter. The SWAP telescope onboard the PROBA2 technology demonstration satellite of the European Space Agency will be the first actual implementation of a CMOS-APS detector for solar physics ...
AI-ready data in space science and solar physics: problems, mitigation and action plan KU Leuven
In the domain of space science, numerous ground-based and space-borne data of various phenomena have been accumulating rapidly, making analysis and scientific interpretation challenging. However, recent trends in the application of artificial intelligence (AI) have been shown to be promising in the extraction of information or knowledge discovery from these extensive data sets. Coincidentally, preparing these data for use as inputs to the AI ...
Physical and electrical characterization of high-performance Cu2ZnSnSe4 based thin film solar cells Hasselt University University of Antwerp KU Leuven
We report on the electrical, optical and physical properties of Cu2ZnSnSe4 solar cells using an absorber layer fabricated by selenization of sputtered Cu, Zn and Cu10Sn90 multilayers. A maximum active-area conversion efficiency of 10.4% under AM1.5G was measured with a maximum short circuit current density of 39.7 mA/cm(2), an open circuit voltage of 394 mV and a fill factor of 66.4%. We perform electrical and optical characterization using ...
Effect of Binder Content in Cu-In-Se Precursor Ink on the Physical and Electrical Properties of Printed CuInSe2 Solar Cells Hasselt University University of Antwerp Ghent University KU Leuven
Printed chalcopyrite thin films have attracted considerable attention in recent years due to their potential in the high-throughput production of photovoltaic devices. To improve the homogeneity of printed CuInSe2 (CISe) layers, chemical additives such as binder can be added to the precursor ink. In this contribution, we investigate the influence of the dicyandiamide (DCDA) content, used as a binder in the precursor ink, on the physical and ...
