The way wear goes : phytolith-based wear on the dentine–enamel system in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) Ghent University
The effect of phytoliths on tooth wear and function has been contested in studies of animal-plant interactions. For herbivores whose occlusal chewing surface consists of enamel ridges and dentine tissue, the phytoliths might particularly erode the softer dentine, exposing the enamel ridges to different occlusal forces and thus contributing to enamel wear. To test this hypothesis, we fed guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus; n = 36 in six groups) for ...
On the modelling of gear alignment errors in the tooth contact analysis of spiral bevel gears KU Leuven
A penetration-based gear contact model for accurate and numerically efficient tooth contact analysis of spiral bevel gears is used to investigate the simulation of gear alignment errors. The developed gear contact model with surfaces of roll angles, computed for the gear pair's tooth flanks in the absence of misalignments, is shown to be well capable of predicting a misaligned gear pair's contact performance. In this approach the contact curves ...
Cephalometric appraisal of post-treatment tooth eruption: a 20 year follow-up study Hasselt University KU Leuven
Aim: To assess the amount of tooth eruption that occurs during 20 years after completion of orthodontic treatment and analyse possible correlations with age and mandibular growth pattern present. Materials and methods: A retrospective longitudinal cephalometric investigation of dento-alveolar changes was performed in 72 patients (50 women and 22 men). Two lateral cephalograms, taken at the end of orthodontic treatment and on average 20 years ...
Equine cheek teeth occlusal fissures : prevalence, association with dental wear abnormalities and occlusal angles Ghent University
Impact of exploitation conditions on the types of wear of the excavator slew bearing toothed race KU Leuven
© 2018 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved. Excavators as operating machines or equipment are exposed to diversetypes of undesired conditions, such as variable workloads, exposure to various environment conditions, unprofessional or imperfect maintenance and others. This paper demonstrates a case of anexcavator slewing ring failure which is investigated. The study suggests the failure to be caused by improper control and ...
Stratigraphy of an Early–Middle Miocene sequence near Antwerp in northern Belgium (southern North Sea basin) Ghent University
The lithostratigraphy and biostratigraphy of a temporary outcrop in the Antwerp area is described. The deposits can be attributed to the Kiel Sands and the Antwerpen Sands members, both belonging to the Lower and Middle Miocene Berchem Formation. Invertebrate and vertebrate macrofossils are abundantly present. The molluscan fauna compares well to former findings in the Antwerpen Sands Member. It can be concluded that the studied sequence is ...
Three-year randomized clinical trial to evaluate the clinical performance and wear of a nanocomposite versus a hybrid composite KU Leuven
OBJECTIVES: Compare the 3-year clinical performance (wear as an additional parameter) of a nanocomposite and a microhybrid composite, versus ADA guidelines (2001) using direct (clinical/USPHS) and indirect (quantitative/3D laser scan and qualitative/SEM) methods, in parallel. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 18 Filtek Supreme and 17 Z100 restorations were placed in molars (split mouth model) and bonded with Single bond Adhesive. Restorations were ...
