4D Biophotonics for Sustainable Food Production KU Leuven
Meeting the grand challenge of feeding 10 billion people while reducing the ecological impact of food production requires detailed monitoring and control of the dynamic processes in plants, animals and food products. Photonic technologies have high potential in this context, but the large progress at the hardware side has so far only resulted in limited impact on the agrofood sector. Therefore, this research program aims to untap this ...

NB-Photonics (Centre for Nano- and Biophotonics) Ghent University
Ghent University is a centre of excellence in the field of photonics, as evidenced by scientific output and spin-offs. NB-Photonics is the UGent-platform that brings together photonics expertise of >20 professors. With this proposal NB-Photonics will actively open up its comprehensive expertise to the UGent-community at large and thereby add value to the research ambitions of UGent-groups and their partners.
On-chip integrated UV micro plasma sources for biophotonic applications Ghent University
The current proposal aims at boosting the field of biological imaging and spectroscopy at ultraviolet light by downscaling standard bulk optics with the use of integrated photonics and on-chip plasmas. The fundamental research problem is to understand the mechanisms of the coupling of ultraviolet plasma emission into a low-loss single mode waveguide and to optimize it for optical spectroscopy.
Supercontinuum generation in silicon nanowaveguides for biophotonic Ghent University
The purpose of this project is to make a supercontinuüm light source. This light source has to be as white as possible in one spatial mode. This kind of light source can be used in medical imaging techniques such as Optical Coherence Tomography.
