Safe blood donation and transfusion are hallmark to modern healthcare. Dental treatment is a known risk factor to acquire transfusion transmissible infections (TTI’s), therefore possibly threatening the safety of blood supply. Nowadays the deferral policy after dental treatment is based on the precautionary principle. It is our aim to give an overview of the current scientific evidence concerning the risk of TTI's after dental treatment.
