Fine tuning of Synthetic Pathways through Conditional Expression for the production of biochemicals Ghent University
Transfer of multi-gene or poorly understood heterologous pathways into the production host leads to imbalances. Hence, fine tuning the expression of these pathways in specific conditions is mandatory for the succesfull production. This proposal aims to fill the technological and knowledge gap by providing novel metabolic engineering tools allowing fine tuning of complex pathways to enhance production of toxic molecules.
translational study of the modulation of fosfodiesterase type 10A expression by dopaminergic neurotransmission using molecular imaging KU Leuven
Phosphodiesterases are enzymes that break down important signaling molecules (cGMP and cAMP). The phosphodiesterase subtype 10A (PDE10A) is present only in a specific substructure in the brain (“striatum”) which is related to movement disorders such as Huntington’s (HD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). PDE10A is also a new drug target for treatment of schizophrenia. We have developed a radioactive substance (“radiotracer”) that binds to PDE10A. ...

Exploiting the association between genomic and gene expression data of natural variants
(patients, different plant species) has already shown to be informative for lead identification, molecular subtyping of patients, biomarker design etc. As naturally occurring genetic variants are not restricted to single or double knock-outs, they contain in principle more information on subtle interactions between molecular entities than classical ...

Hide your Pain: Pain expression and pain sensitivity in the face of social threat KU Leuven
Pain is usually studied on an intrapersonal level, ignoring the social context in which it occurs. However, humans are social beings and concerning painful experiences the social environment has important effects on our behavior and experience. Research has shown that social factors have a profound influence on pain perception. For instance, when we are socially excluded, it hurts in a similar way as physical pain would. To date, very little ...

Reconstruction of dynamic initiation and progression gene expression regulatorynetworks in neuroblastoma Ghent University
Neuroblastoma (NB) is a lethal tumor of childhood for which therapy has improved little over the past decades and which is assumed to benefit from insights into perturbed signaling pathways. Recently, new genetic components in the oncogenic signaling in NB cells have been discovered. Despite these advances, details of down stream signaling and the relationship between these pathways remain elusive. Such knowledge is however crucial for ...
