Holistic river water quantity-quality modeling. KU Leuven
Water engineering and management practices strongly evolved during recent years. More focus is given to integration of civil technical, hydrological, water quantity and quality, ecological and other aspects. However, this integration is to date not as efficient as it should be. This has both institutional and technical reasons. At the technical level, mathematical models are used as decision support tools, but are most often developed for ...
Sabbatical Erik Toorman: Completing an innovative, holistic sediment transport theory KU Leuven
The aim of this sabbatical is to consolidate and finalize a complex set of pieces of theory and models (developed over the past 25 years) into an innovative holistic methodology for the calculation of sediment movement in water (and air) currents, applicable at the scale of rivers, estuaries and coasts. This should result in a book, peer-reviewed publications and implementation in the open-source model suites TELEMAC and OpenFOAM.

The development of a holistic circularibility framework in function of product design based on quality metrics Ghent University
The ability with which products with their components and materials can circulate in our economy, defined here as circularibility, strongly depends on their complexity. Therefore, the objective of this research is to develop a holistic circularibility framework based on this complexity. Case studies will be performed to evaluate its applicability as well as the relationship with economic and environmental sustainability.
