Multimodal dual-imaging-derived biomarkers for unravelling host response from lung disease progression in cystic lung fibrosis, infection and therapy KU Leuven
Despite the significant advances made by the introduction of imaging techniques for lung diseases and fungal infection research, there are still important gaps where we identify three priorities we want to address with our project. First, we will address the need for alternative antifungal treatment approaches by investigating fungicidal combinatorial treatment in vivo in mouse models of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) (context of ...

HOME-MATE: HOME-compatible Multimodal Alarm Triggering for Epilepsy Ghent University
This project tackles fundamental research on the technology needed for an automatic epileptic seizure detection system. It uses flexible and stretchable substrates with various sensors, it processes EEG signals and other measurement and it uses the reservoir computing neural network technique. Thsi leads to a fast detection system, tailored to individual patients and fit for a home detection system.

MUST - Multimodal stance-taking in interaction KU Leuven
Multimodal stance-taking in interaction KU Leuven
A fundamental property of language is its ability to simultaneously represent subjects, objects or events, and express the speaker’s stance towards these representations. Although stance-taking as a socially contextualized and recognized interpersonal phenomenon has received substantial attention in different subfields of linguistics, its multimodal realization in real-life interaction still remains largely unexplored. The proposed research ...
When gesture “takes over”: A multimodal analysis of speech-embedded nonverbal depictions in interaction KU Leuven
This doctoral project is an analysis of what we identify as “speech-embedded nonverbal depictions,” namely cases where meaning is communicated iconically, nonverbally, and without simultaneously co-occurring speech. Though ubiquitous in spontaneous interaction, such depictions have been largely marginalized in the literature of relevant fields of inquiry. Operationalizing Clark’s (2016) staging theory for depicting as the overarching ...
