Physical fitness as determinant of cardio-metabolic health in normal children and children with congenital heart disease Ghent University
Evidence suggests that physical inactivity, obesity and acquired cardiovascular disease may be at least as prevalent in patients with congenital heart disease as in the general population. We aim to explore and determine physical fitness level and its influence on cardio-metabolic risk factors in normal children participated in IDEFICS study and compare the results with children operated for congenital heart disease.
“Walk on”: A health psychology perspective on physical activity in fibromyalgia. Ghent University
Many patients with fibromyalgia avoid physical activities because of pain and fatigue. This research project aims to understand and increase behavioural maintenance (the ability to maintain physical activities in the presence of pain/fatigue) and behavioural recovery (the recovery of PA after periods of bedrest and inactivity) using a diary methodology (Ecological Momentary Assessment) and aggregated single case experimental designs.
The role of social exclusion in mental and physical health in transgender persons Ghent University
To determine the role of social exclusion in psychological and physical health in transgender persons this project will use 1) self-report data, 2) experimental psychological tasks and psychophysiology and 3) general health parameters and immune-related markers of health. As secondary schoolgirls are many hours sedentary and not sufficiently physically active, the development of an intervention in this group is important. The intervention will use a participatory health research approach by actively involving the girls in the entire research process.The final aim is to provide a prototype with the most important intervention strategies to change behaviour among secondary schoolgirls.
