Development of customizable attenuated and vector vaccines to protect against porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), essential for a successful treatment Ghent University
Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is currently difficult to control with currently licensed vaccines. The inactivated vaccines do not induce protective immunity. They can only provide a boost immune response in animals when the strain in the vaccine is genetically equivalent to the circulating strain. The attenuated vaccines have given a very good protection in the nineties. The last decade has been the efficacy ...

Matricellular proteins, thrombospondin-2 and SPARC (osteonectin), protect against heart failure. KU Leuven
Targeting the cystine/glutamate antiporter system xc- to protect the brain against age-related decline in proteasome function and neurodegeneration. KU Leuven
An ever-increasing number of people reach an age when physical and cognitive limitations affect quality-of-life. Age is an important risk factor for developing dementia and neurodegenerative diseases that are characterized by protein aggregation and accumulation, such as Parkinson’s disease (PD). Disturbed protein homeostasis is an important contributor to age-related (cellular) dysfunctions and can result from impairment of the ubiquitin ...
Flexible biocompatible high-quality bi-directional diffusion barriers using low temperature atomic layer deposition, to protect electronic implants and other diffusion-sensitive micro-systems. Inhoudsopgave Referentie Projectidentificatie Algemeen Pr Ghent University
Via the requested low-temperature-ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) extension for our current Parylene deposition tool, we want to be able to fabricate a high quality TiO2/Al2O3/TiO2 ALD stack and to combine it with Parylene, in order to obtain an ultra-thin, biocompatible and flexible bi-directional diffusion barrier of superior quality. A profound process optimisation and the possibility of in-situ material deposition including plasma ...
Development of a microbiome product to protect against E. coli associated post-weaning diarrhoea in pigs Ghent University
This project aims at developing a multibiotic that can protect piglets from the development of E.coli associated post-weaning diarrhoea. In particular, we focus on characterizing the piglet microbiota in healthy individuals in order to isolate specific microbiota members with probiotic potential. Candidate bacteria are tested in vitro and in vivo for their activity against the disease.
Countermeasures to protect hardware implementations of symmetric cryptographic algorithms against physical attacks KU Leuven
The main goal of the research is to contribute to countermeasures to protect hardware implementations of symmetric cryptographic algorithms against physical attacks. It can include both countermeasures against passive and active attacks. The research is aimed to study such concepts as masking, threshold implementations, randomness generation and many others in order to improve the security and performance of the hardware implementations ...
