time, frequency, temperature, etc.) and are therefore naturally represented by higher-order arrays of numerical values, which
are called higher-order tensors.
Matrices are tensors of order two.
By definition, a matrix is rank-1 if its columns (or equivalently, rows) are proportional.

Non-singular tensors and finite semifields. Ghent University
This project investigates finite semifields and their links to tensors. New geometrical invariants, new bounds on the number of isotopy classes of finite semifields, and new ways of constructing finite semifields are investigated. Concrete research topics include the classification of small finite semifields, the study of rank problems for 3-tensors, and the study of 4-tensors.
Study of canonical and block term decompositions of higher-order tensors: uniqueness, algebraic and optimization based algorithms. KU Leuven

Tensor decompositions for multi-modal Big Data analytics KU Leuven
Experimental and theoretical development of FO-SPR sensors for monitoring the formation of MOF recognition layers to sense VOCs KU Leuven
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals found in various settings, including domestic, and industrial environments, originating from natural and human-made sources. Due to their potential harm to health and the environment, detecting and monitoring VOCs is crucial. While gas chromatography with mass spectrometry is the preferred method, it is expensive and unsuitable for real-time on-site measurements. To address this issue, this ...
PreSS3d: Pressure Sensors with a Soft 3D-Structure Ghent University
The aim of this project is to further develop and characterize the novel capacitive based soft pressure sensor of CMST, for which a patent application was filed (cfr Section 'Current Status'). We have identified a number of interesting use cases for this sensor (e.g. pressure sensing interface for orthoses and exoskeletons, robotic hand development) but the aim is to create a toolbox including designs, materials, stack buildups, ...
