Meaning in life and objective value 'outside oneself'

Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

This paper focuses on the work of Susan Wolf's conception of meaning in life, particularly on the notion of objective value in her account. To Wolf, objective value has no substantial content, but objectivity only refers to values shared by a larger community. I claim that it is possible to reach a deeper understanding of a perceived or imagined value outside oneself in non-substantial terms when employing some of Levinas and Derrida's observations as heuristic tools.
