On the initiation and evolution of Coronal Mass Ejections

This project focusses on the intiation and evolution of CMEs through observations and 2.5D MHD numerical modelling. Two models are used, one describes the initiation of the eruption and the other neglects the initiation phase by superimposing a high density/pressure sphere on a background solar wind. The effect of the initial parameters, such as the polarity of the CME, on its evolution can then be studied.The observational study concerns both remote and in-situ observations.
