Tijdschriftbijdrage - Tijdschriftartikel

From the announcement of the Council in 1959 till 1964 Catholic ecumenists like Yves Congar, Christophe-Jean Dumont and Emmanuel Lanne have intensively tried to influence the redaction of De Ecclesia, De Oecumenismo and De Ecclesiis Orientalibus. In this article we focus on a number of non-published materials that have been preserved in their personal Vatican II archives: assessments of the different drafts and memoranda that were brought under the attention of Popes and cardinals. It becomes clear from the study of these documents that the work of the ecumenical ‘Avant-garde’ during this period was guided by one single motivation, which was the desire to promote and not to render impossible the future dialogue with the Orthodox.
